Firstofall,developourinterestinEnglishatthebeginningofourstudy.TodevelopinterestinEnglishstudyisnotveryhard.WemayhavethefeelingofsatisfactionandachievementfromourEnglishstudywhenweareabletosaysomethingsimpleinEnglish,talkwithothersorforeignersinEnglishandactasothers'interpreters.PleasedoNOTneglectinterestisthefirstteacher.
AsyouknowEnglishisalanguagethatrepresentsthesoundsofpronunciation;butChineselanguageisnot.Thegrammarandstructurebetweenthesetwolanguagesarenotverymuchalike.Infact,besidesthetensofthousandsofoffensivevocabularywords,theproblemsinlisteningandspeakingaremoreoutstanding.Youcanneverhearawholemeaningfulfragment,letalonetosaysomethinginyourownwords.Therefore,inmyopinion,listeningandspeakingskillsisthemostimportantthingofallthefiveskillsinmasteringalanguage---listening,speaking,reading,writingandtranslation(interpretation).
Here,Iwanttoshowyousomebasicmethodstotrainyourselveslisteningandspeakingcompetence:
Listening:beforeyouwanttounderstandwhatothershavesaid,youshouldtryyourbesttoletyourselfclearlyhearwhattheyjustsaid.Thatis,youshouldpayattentiontothestressofawordandasentence,thesound-linking,thetoneintervalsandetc.Youcanlistentotherecordedtrainingmaterialbylookingattheoriginallines.Andifyouinsistindoingsoatleastamonth,youwillfindyoucanhearandunderstand40%ofwordsinaparticularlisteningmaterial.Sinceyouwillunderstandthemeaningofawholesentencebyonlycatchingpartofwords,the40%wordsyouhavecaughtareenoughforyoutogetthe70%oftheholisticmeaning.Ofcourse,itisthebasicwaytosetyourfeetinspeakingtraining.Youshouldgoonexperiencinginharderandharderexercisesandnotstopthoughyoufeelyouhavemadegreatprogress.

Newspaperasgoodreadingmaterialscanwidenourhorizonandrichenourknowledge.IrecommendyoushouldbuysomeEnglishnewspaperatregulartime;currenteventsaremoreinterestingforyoutoread,becausesometimesreadingisanextremelyboringthing.
